Die Fledermaus

Strauss' operetta Die Fledermaus oozes charm, glamour and romance, its hilarious plot captivating its audience from overture to final curtain. Among the highlights of a memorable evening are Rosalinde's fiery Hungarian Czárdás, Orlofsky's Champagne Aria and Adele's Laughing Song.

This delightful farce tells how Gabriel von Eisenstein, facing eight days in jail, tells his wife, Rosalinde, that he is off to serve his time, but instead attends a lavish ball given by Prince Orlofsky. Unbeknown to him, Rosalinde also attends the party, veiled, as does her maid Adele masquerading as an actress. To further complicate things Rosalinde's lover, Alfredo, is taken to jail in Eisenstein's place! By the end of the night all veils are lifted, identities known and truths revealed.

This new production, directed by Stephen Antony Brown, brings this wonderful operetta to life with an opulent production set in Vienna and is fully staged and sung in English. The professional soloists from leading opera companies are backed by Kentish Opera's impressive chorus and a professional orchestra conducted by Robyn Sevastos.

We’re excited to bring this charming, romantic and hilarious operetta to the Stag stage and hope to see you there!

The cast list is fantastic, with many familiar faces and few new ones.

Stefanie Kemball-Read is playing Rosalinde. Her fiery Hungarian Czárdás is amazing and worth the ticket price alone! Stefanie played Adele in our 2012 production of Die Fledermaus.

Jonathan Cooke is playing Eisenstein. Jonathan recently played Hoffmann for us in our Tales of Hoffmann production.

The husband and wife team of Häkan Vramsmo and Katherine Blumenthal are joining us with Häkan playing Falke. Häkan played Amonasro in last year’s Aida along with Katherine who is playing Adele. She played Aida in our Aida production.

Richard Decker is playing Prince Orlosky. This role is normally played by a woman as a ‘trouser role’, but Richard is the most amazing countertenor and has been hailed as a ‘countertenor star of the future’.

Giles Davies is playing Frank. Giles played The King of Egypt in last year’s Aida production and Jack Point in our 2023 production of Yeomen of the Guard.

Kevin Gauntlett is playing Frosch. Kevin played Frosch for us in our 2012 Die Fledermaus. Kevin’s connections with Kentish Opera go back to 1977!
