Die Fledermaus

Strauss' operetta Die Fledermaus oozes charm, glamour and romance, its hilarious plot captivating its audience from overture to final curtain. Among the highlights of a memorable evening are Rosalinde's fiery Hungarian Czárdás, Orlofsky's Champagne Aria and Adele's Laughing Song.

This delightful farce tells how Gabriel von Eisenstein, facing eight days in jail, tells his wife, Rosalinde, that he is off to serve his time, but instead attends a lavish ball given by Prince Orlofsky. Unbeknown to him, Rosalinde also attends the party, veiled, as does her maid Adele masquerading as an actress. To further complicate things Rosalinde's lover, Alfredo, is taken to jail in Eisenstein's place! By the end of the night all veils are lifted, identities known and truths revealed.

This new production, directed by Stephen Antony Brown, brings this wonderful operetta to life with an opulent production set in Vienna and is fully staged and sung in English. The professional soloists from leading opera companies are backed by Kentish Opera's impressive chorus and a professional orchestra conducted by Robyn Sevastos.

On our recent production of Verdi's Aida

"truly stunning and a privilege to watch up close - more ‘immediate’ than a West End production and the better for it - and without paying London prices."

"you know you are in for a wonderful evening, and Aida didn’t disappoint. All the elements of grand opera are there - set, lighting, costumes ... professional performances, superlative orchestra, excellent direction ... this Aida was a joy to watch, what more to say!!"

Review of our 70th Anniversary Concert

"What a wonderful way to celebrate Kentish Opera's 70th anniversary and to honour their past director for many years, Sally Langford. I have been witness to Sally’s directorship, and she will be a sad loss to Kentish Opera.

Robyn Sevastos guided us through the programme of popular opera, sung wonderfully by soloists Stephen Antony Brown, Helen Bailey, Natasha Day and the glorious Kentish Opera chorus.

Robyn’s narration was very informative, giving us an insight into to the work that Sally had directed. It was also touching that her husband and son were in the audience and her daughter in the chorus.

Keep up the good work for Opera in Kent."
